Magento developer of note Daniel Sloof recently tweeted about the open sourcing (MIT) of — his? his company’s — Magento 2 Clean Checkout extension
Breaking a couple months silence to bring you guys an early christmas gift: https://t.co/dIi6J9mLx0 A drop-in replacement for #Magento2 Checkout. Commercial project turned open source because I'm unable to provide support right now. Have fun.

Magento 2’s existing checkout application is a UI Component (minus the XML) based solution that, while an interesting tech demo, has proven extreemly dificult and time consuming to customize. Clean Checkout also makes use of Magento’s UI Component framework, but offers a cleaned up look and feel for the checkout application, as well as a backend System Configuration pane for intermediate level customizations. Worth a look if the defaut Magento 2 checkout is giving your team the blues.
